Mission Moment - August 2010
School Chaplaincy
Please pray that God in His grace will overrule the current policies and that this vital ministry to students will continue and flourish.
- The current government has not given a commitment that the program will continue and if it does it may be given over exclusively to a secular service.
- The Greens Party has indicated that it prefers a secular service model. In other words the unique holistic and spiritual dimension of chaplaincy will be lost.
- The Liberal Opposition has stated that the program will continue under their leadership however it will not expand the number of school chaplains.
ACCESS ministries is asking churches to tell their local politicians why they should support chaplains. It's imperative that politicians from all parties hear your voice.
Please visit http://support.schoolchaplaincy.org.au and share your short, simple story about why school chaplaincy must be continued.
This church supports chaplaincy at Berwick Secondary College financially and through David Morland chairing the current Chaplaincy Committee.
Mission Moment - July 2010
Bruce and Cheryl Roberts are teaching in China, but the end of July sees Bruce and Cheryl finishing their time in China, after 7 years.
Please pray for the team who continue on, albeit with changes of staff, and for the teams in other areas of China. Pray for the students who will miss them.
Two couples would value our prayers: Samuel and Esther who were married in May in a hotel lobby had 50 onlookers observing their Christian wedding. Samuel has completed a Masters in Computing and will now work for twelve months for his professor with no pay in order to have references for a good job later.
Max and Connie's baby is due now. Connie has been working twelve hours a day, five days a week, at a hospital. After the baby's birth she will have three months off, then her mother will become the carer for the baby while
she returns to work.
Bruce and Cheryl are thankful for the partnership with Beaconsfield Baptist Church, and ask that we pray for them and their unknown future. Ask for God's blessing on their parents and adult children also.
Mission Trip
This Friday (2 July) Leigh and Cheryl Reeves will depart for a four week stint at the
250-bed Kijabe Hospital, 60 km from Nairobi, Kenya. This hospital is run
by African Inland Church and supported by African Inland Mission. Leigh
and Cheryl are going under the auspices of World Medical Mission which is
part of Samaritan's Purse. Leigh will be working as a general surgeon and
Cheryl will be doing data entry for the HIV AIDS program. Your prayers for
this mission trip would be much valued.
Mission Moment: Youth For Christ–Gippsland June 2010
David and Chris Hobbs write:
Give thanks for opportunities to share Jesus with young people every week, and for the Chaplaincy role at Drouin Secondary School. Please pray for the long-term goal of providing accommodation to youth and single mums, more staff, volunteers and board members, redesigning the backyard at the Youth Centre—pergola, veggie patch, climbing wall, basketball ring, youth struggling with transition into work/school, Chris—a young guy needing farm work, two staff members whose financial support is very low and the YFCA National Conference in Victoria in October.
Thanks so much for your support.
David & Chris Hobbs.
Mission News April 2010
Bruce Roberts writes:
The art and craft of China can be found in the local tourist markets. The Chinese word for these goods is "DongXi" which means "stuff". In China one of the great industries is making genuine copies (how's that for an oxymoron?) of both ancient and modern artefacts. While certainly you get what you pay for sometimes the quality qualifies as a bargain (like my Rolex) but it's the thrill of meeting the people, visiting a place like Xian and experiencing another living and vibrant culture.
Missionary Moment - December 2009

Roberts News November 2009
Greetings from Xián in autumn. The weather is
now cooling down and in two weeks the heating
will be turned on across northern China. The other day, Cheryl announced
there are only eight weeks to Christmas. The year is flying by so quickly.
Our team (only eight) is managing well despite a few recent hiccups. The
H1N1 virus is making its prescence felt in some universities, with campus
closures and class cancellations. From the 1-7 October it was China's 60th
National holiday celebration. It was huge. The national fervour is high at
the moment and everyone is looking to China to be a major power in every
way. Two weeks ago Bruce had the privilege of attending an official church
in the city. He went with one of our special friends who is now attending
the church. It seats 500 people at one time and we stayed for three
services; each of them were full. We also want to ask you to ask our Father
for more workers because there is a great harvest at hand.
Our love and blessings to all.—Cheryl & Bruce.
Missionary Moment - 15 Nov 2009
Chris and David Hobbs of YFC, Warragul, would
appreciate prayer for their coming Christmas
breakup activities, especially on 20th December
when they will feed over 100 people. Those kids living in families with
special needs are invited to lunch and also given a hamper and presents. In
2010 new programs will be starting and there is a real need for more staff.
Chris is looking to work part-time so she can spend more time with the
family, therefore a full-time director is needed. Pray for guidance for the
team and that their potential will be achieved. Praise points are that the
buddy system is going well and the loan has been reduced to $120,000 in
just a three and a half year period.
If anyone has any jeans, shorts, or pants and white school shirts or any
shirts suitable for boys aged from grade 3 to year 7 that are in good condition
please see Heather Young. The clothes will be taken to children living
with HIV/AIDS in Cavelossim, Salcete, Goa, India, at the end of December.
