MAJOR OBJECTIVE: To pastor the youth and young persons of the church and community, growing them in faith to become faithful servants of Christ.
KEY OBJECTIVES:
Co-Ordinate a team of spiritual mature and spiritually growing men and women to assist in the running of the activities of the youth work
Provide biblical teaching on a Sunday evening and at other times as deemed appropriate by the Senior Pastor.
Co-Ordinate the teaching of the leadership team and young people in the form of small group bible studies.
Provide a level of support to the young people of our church and community.
Support the activities of the Senior Pastor in line with the directions given from the Deaconate.
Work towards attaining the appropriate qualification through study with a bible training institution
EVALUATION: This will be held annually in June and will be an assessment against the key objectives of the position. This will be done with the Senior Pastor and Youth Deacon (or nominated Deaconate representative).
RELEVANT WORK INSTRUCTIONS:
Staff Selection: Staff / Leaders will be selected by the Youth Pastor to form a leadership team. These staff will be required to undergo a police check as they will be in direct contact with the young people. Written permission must be obtained from the leadership candidate prior to performing any background checks. Once this background check is completed, it will be reviewed by the Deacons before approval is granted for the candidate to join the leadership team.
Pastoral Care: Must always be done in such a way that the conduct of the Associate Pastor or the Church cannot be called into question and the integrity of the person(s) involved is protected at all times. Where possible, Pastoral care should take place with a third person present to ensure the conduct of the persons cannot be called into question.
Safety: The security and safety of the leadership team and young persons is paramount. No physical activity is to be undertaken without a minimum level 1 first-aider in attendance, and a appropriately stocked first aid kit. For offsite activities involving transport, it is recommended that a bus is hired to transport the leadership team and young people. Where this is not appropriate, written permission should be obtained from persons under 18 from the parent or legal guardian for their child to be transported by private vehicle.

Provide biblical teaching through studies and through example for the young people.
Provide teaching for young people in the form of small group bible studies.
Participate in a relevant leadership small group bible study
Provide a level of support to the young people of our church and community.
Support the activities of the Associate Pastor (Youth) in line with the directions given from the Deaconate.
EVALUATION: This will be at the discretion of the Associate Pastor (Youth).

EVALUATION: This is at the discretion of the Senior Pastor and Associate Pastor (Youth).
RELEVANT WORK INSTRUCTIONS:

Pastoral Care: Sunday School Teachers are not required to be involved in Pastoral Care. It is the responsibility of the Sunday School Teachers to inform their superior of any Pastoral Care needs they become aware of. Although not required to do Pastoral Care Sunday School Teachers are free to do so on the understanding that they have an obligation to inform their superior of any Pastoral Care undertaken.

No physical activity is to be undertaken without a minimum level 1 first-aider in attendance, and a appropriately stocked first aid kit. For offsite activities involving transport, it is recommended that a bus is hired to transport the leadership team and young people. Where this is not appropriate, written permission should be obtained from persons under 18 from the parent or legal guardian for their child to be transported by private vehicle.
Purpose:
The following policy is to ensure that the Church has taken the appropriate level of care in the selection of leaders that limit the church’s exposure to the risk of damage to persons (physically and mentally) and financial risk.
Policy:
These instructions apply to leadership positions other than pastoral positions.
SELECTION OF ADULT LEADERS FOR YOUTH, JUNIOR YOUTH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL:
The candidate must be nominated by the Senior Pastor or Associate Pastor (Youth) and seconded by a member of the Church.
The candidate is required to be a confessed born again Christian who regularly attends worship with the community of the Beaconsfield Baptist Church.
The candidate must complete and submit the “Request for leadership consideration” form and a police background check must be performed.
The information obtained must be treated in strict confidence and must not be discussed with persons outside of the diaconate.
A candidate’s request must be formally moved and voted on by the Diaconate. A candidate will be successful when a majority is achieved.
The Associate Pastor (Youth) should be notified within 48 hours of the meeting.
Copies of the “Request for leadership consideration” and relevant information must be kept on file for 20 years.
SELECTION OF LEADERS FOR YOUTH, JUNIOR YOUTH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL LESS THAN 18 Y/O:
The candidate must be nominated by the Senior Pastor or Associate Pastor (Youth) and seconded by a member of the Church.
Permission should also be granted (written) from the parent or guardian.
The candidate is required to be a confessed born again Christian who regularly attends worship with the community of the Beaconsfield Baptist Church.
Police background check is not required for candidates less than 16 years of age. Candidates 16 years or older must complete and submit the “Request for leadership consideration” form and a police background check must be performed.
A candidate’s request must be formally moved and voted on by the Diaconate. A candidate will be successful when a majority is achieved.
The Associate Pastor (Youth) should be notified within 48 hours of the meeting.
Copies of the “Request for leadership consideration” and relevant information must be kept on file for 20 years.

Purpose:
The following policy is to ensure that the Church has taken the appropriate level of care in providing direction and guidelines for leaders in the church in relation to providing Pastoral Care for the church and community
Policy:
Pastoral Care is limited to people in leadership where their positional job description includes Pastoral Care within their scope.
No leader acting on behalf of the church will enter into Pastoral Care where legal advice is given, or where legal implications may arise. Any Pastoral Care that requires such advice should be referred to the senior pastor.
Where practical, Pastoral Care should take place in a public area. Where this is impractical, the leader should take appropriate measures such as including a third person as a witness, postponing the Pastoral Care or referring this to the senior pastor.
If in the leaders opinion he/she is uncomfortable with the direction of the Pastoral Care, it must be immediately terminated and referred to the Senior Pastor
If during Pastoral Care there is any behavior, comments, discussion or activity of a sexual nature or could be construed as being of a sexual nature that is directed at the person providing the Pastoral Care, then the Pastoral Care must be immediately terminated and referred to the Senior Pastor.

Purpose:
The following policy is to ensure that the Church buildings are kept in a safe manner, and that church activities are conducted in such a way as to minimize any risk to persons involved.

Safety of Church Property:
The church will Endeavour to maintain the church buildings and grounds in a safe manner, so as to minimize risk to any persons.
If any facility, property or activity is deemed to create risk by any participant in the life of the church, the risk should be isolated where possible, and the risk issue should be immediately referred to the Church Safety Coordinator or a Deacon.
If any risk issue has been brought to the attention of the church that can not be easily and simply eliminated, the Deacon for Property will evaluate, and appropriate action taken including quarantine of the facility, property or activity.
The Deacon for Property and/or the Safe Church Co-coordinator will periodically check the church buildings and grounds for areas of risk. The Deacon for Property will then endeavor to have any areas of risk minimized at the earliest possible convenience within the budgetary constraints of the church.
The Safe Church Co-coordinator will ensure that a first aid kit will be held on the church premises. This first aid kit will contain elements as recommended by St Johns ambulance, and will be checked quarterly to ensure the contents are present, in good condition and are current. A log book will be kept as a record of these periodical checks
Safety of Church Activities:
All planned church activities including youth activities will consider and endeavor to minimize risk to persons. The chart below should be used to help identity risk.

If any activity undertaken by the church in the opinion of a church appointed leader becomes “unsafe”, then is must be halted until any risk to persons has been eliminated.
Purpose:
The following policy is to ensure that any injury that occurs on the church premises or during an activity sponsored by the church (youth etc), is dealt with correctly, and promptly in the best interests of the persons involved.
Policy:
The Church will keep an accident log book on it’s premises. Any accident that occurs must be documented in the log book.
All medical and consent forms relating to Church based activities (see policy 004) will be held confidentially on file at the Church, except where an offsite activity is undertaken, where the consent forms will be held by the leader responsible for the activity.
The leader responsible of each activity will have access to the relevant forms held on file at the church.
In the event of an injury requiring medical attention, the leader responsible for the activity will immediately take appropriate steps for the treatment, safety and well being of the injured person, and attempt to contact the parent/guardian or family member of the injured person.
Where treatment is required by a qualified practitioner at a medical facility, the injured person must be transported by an ambulance or by the injured persons parent/guardian. Leaders or Volunteer drivers must not transport injured persons.
The leader responsible for the activity will insure that no unqualified person will administer first aid except in extenuating circumstances.
The leader responsible for the activity will ensure that a qualified first-aider will be present where practical. A qualified first-aider must have successfully completed the St John’s ambulance first Aid, level one course or an equivalent recognized course.
To ensure information is complete and current, new indemnity and permission forms must be completed for all persons under the age of 18 years, for any overnight event or camp.
